Overview of the Collection
 
While forming the Society's own memory bank, the archives also provide a wealth of information for research ranging over a multitude of disciplines and interests.
 
The main groups of records represented in the Society’s archives, with samples of some of the series which they contain, are as follows:
 
A Constitutional (eg charters, grant of arms, rules and ordinances, bye-laws)
 
B Governance (eg Court and committees minutes, standing orders)
 
C Membership (eg Yeomanry and Livery lists, freedom admission registers, quarterage books, apprenticeship bindings, photographs)
 
D Financial (eg Warden’s accounts, ledgers, bonds, annual accounts and balance sheets)
 
E Trade/Professional, and associated activities, including in particular:
 
Trade: drugs manufacture and sale (eg records relating to the “Elaboratory”, Laboratory Stock, Navy Stock, United Stock, the Managing Committee)
 
Chelsea Physic Garden: (eg Garden Committee minute books, accounts, plans,       photographs)
 
Medical Examining and Licensing: records of the Court of Examiners and Examination Committees (eg minute books, annual reports, rules and regulations, lists of recognised lecturers, candidates’ entry/qualification books, lists of Licentiates, registers of failed candidates, question and marking papers, registers of diplomates)
 
F Administrative and Legal (eg Clerk’s correspondence and letter books, Counsels’ opinions, loyal addresses, year books, hospitality records, papers relating to ceremonial activities, staff records)
 
G Charitable and Gifts (eg Distressed Members’ Fund papers, Widows’ Fund Registers of Pensioners, donations, bequests)
