Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine
Established 1973 The title of the Diploma was changed from Venereology in 1987.The examination
is designed for registered medical practitioners who have worked in departments
of Genitourinary Medicine or Venereology, or who have other specific experience
or who have attended a recognised course of instruction.
The syllabus covers both sexually transmitted infections (STI) and human immunodeficiency
virus (HIV) in some detail and is intended to demonstrate a sound level of experience
and competence for those working in genitourinary medicine clinics either in a
training grade or in non-consultant career grades.
A modular course run by the British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH)
provides useful revision although it does not mirror the Diploma's syllabus exactly.
To avoid disappointment, candidates are advised to apply for the examination
well in advance of the closing date for entries.
The closing date is the final date that a completed application can be considered
for entry to the examination but there is no guarantee that places will still
be available at this date.
